3 Mindset Shifts That Turn Ideas to I-Dids

I’ve always been an ideas guy.

I love the energy in a room when people are brainstorming and building on each other's thoughts.

The possibilities of what could be become limitless.

But I’ve also learned that ideas alone don’t move anything forward. Without ownership, action, and accountability, those ideas remain stagnant on the white board.

Over the years, I’ve leaned on three simple mindset shifts that move the ideas to I-dids.

Brainstorming only matters if someone owns it.

Ideas are exciting in the moment, but without clear ownership they drift away.

When a name is attached, when a next step is defined, and when a timeline is set, the idea becomes a real commitment.

Ownership turns a conversation into traction.

Progress beats perfection.

Aiming for perfection can stall action.

I’ve seen leaders spend weeks polishing a plan while others move forward with simple, imperfect steps — and the ones in motion always end up ahead. Small wins build confidence and create momentum that fuels bigger breakthroughs.

Progress opens doors perfection will never touch.

Accountability matters more than intention.

We all mean well, but meaning well doesn’t change outcomes.

Results show up when we put our commitments into the light — when we share them with our teams, revisit them often, and allow others to hold us to them.

Accountability transforms intentions into impact.

These are the same lessons I share when I talk with leaders about turning vision into reality.

If you want more practical ways to build clarity, alignment, and action, I walk through them in my keynote, How Leaders Turn Vision Into Reality.

At the end of the day, leadership is measured by what gets done. The gap between where you are and where you want to be will always close faster when you choose to act.
